Another 20gb of 100mp Phase One Raws

We’ve continued to extensively test the Phase One IQ3 100mp. After hours of organization, processing, and renaming they are now available in our massive collection of Phase One / Leaf raw files.

How To Download

To begin downloading raw files from any of these tests please visit our Phase One IQ3 100mp Raw File Download Page.

Moreover we’d be glad to arrange a screen sharing session with you and one of our Phase One Certified Technicians to walk you through the files, point out their pros and cons, and help you understand how they relate to your needs. You can also contact us at info@digitaltransitions.com to arrange an in person visit to our LA or NYC office. Can’t make it to one of those? Sign up for a free remote demo.

Architectural Interior – Schneider 35LS. Aperture Sweep.

Taken at the The Morgan Library and Museum. Many of our tech camera clients have taken notice of the Schneider 35LS, the first SLR lens that can match the sharpness and clarity of tech camera wides such as the Rodenstock 32HR. This set of frames was captured from f/4 to f/11 with the camera tilted up so you can also evaluate the pros and cons of using the automatic perspective correction in Capture One.

Architectural Interior –Schneider 35LS. ISO Sweep.

Taken at the The Morgan Library and Museum. Many of our architecture and interior shooters incorporate people and movement into their images. Combined with the low light of interiors this sometimes calls for an increased ISO to keep shutter speeds sufficiently short to prevent excessive motion blur. So we captured this ISO sweep so you can evaluate what ISOs you find useful in this use case. The full range from ISO50 to ISO12,800 was captured.

Baby Photo – Mid ISO

With the increased autofocus speed and responsiveness of the Phase One XF and the increased ISO range of the Phase One IQ3 100mp medium format is now usable in scenes that we historically would not have recommended it. One of our team is a new mother and used the XF to capture some cute images of her baby girl. One was shot at ISO400 and one at ISO1600.

Color Checker Concept; Skintone Comparison

An homage to the Color Checker Passport test shot. As sometimes happens, the most successful shots of the day were of the assistant who we transformed into a dehumanized Color Checker Holder by means of gaffe tape. Friend of DT, Mister Lynch (motion/stills image creator) recorded a BTS video which you’ll find below. This series includes direct comparisons between “CCD Skin Tone” and “CMOS Skin Tone” and “Leaf Skintone” and “Phase One Skintone” by having the same scene captured with:

  • The Credo 40 (Leaf CCD)
  • The Phase One IQ3 60mp
  • The Phase One IQ3 80mp
  • The Phase One IQ3 100mpx

Tech Camera Shift Tests

For those interested in using the 100mp on tech cameras it’s important to know how much shift this new sensor will allow with wider tech camera lenses. Our findings are that it handles these lenses about the same as the 80mp sensor did. So generally it will be better to select Rodenstock rather than Schneider wide angles (e.g. the Rodenstock 40HR vs Schneider 43XL). Remember that Schneider is very generous with their spec on image circle (a polite way of saying the usable image circle is significantly smaller than what they put in the spec) and Rodenstock is very conservative with their spec the difference in actual image circles is often much less than would be indicated in their specs. Also, none of these were captured with center filters, and it seems clear from the results that the 100mp will benefit from the use of graduated center filters.

A similar test as the above, but with a greater emphasis on rise/fall as well as shift. This one includes comparisons between the 100mp, 80mp, and 60mp models of the Phase One IQ3 series.

SLR Window Test

These tests were done to address several specific requests we had from clients. Therefore there is not a cohesive theme and the subject matter is not especially exciting. If you have a custom test you’d like done please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@digitaltransitions.com
