The Phase One X-Shutter Platform is Expanding

When Phase One released the XT, they unveiled a brand new mechanism for lens and shutter control, the X-Shutter. Integrated directly into the native Rodenstock optics for the system, the X-Shutter made controlling technical camera lenses easy, without any mechanical adjustment, opening/closing, or external power sources required. We’re excited to announce that now, the Phase One X-Shutter is expanding to accept the most popular technical camera lenses, and in most cases, can be used in the place of Copal 0 shutters.

 

Phase One X-Shutter Compatibility

Lenses retrofitted with the Phase One X-Shutter will be completely controllable from a Phase One IQ4 digital back using a standard 12-pin cable and will provide full lens metadata (focal length, aperture, and shutter speed). The Phase One X-Shutter can also now be added to Tilt-Shift boards for the Cambo WRS system, allowing Phase One XT users to use tilt on their systems. Because Cambo WRS cameras and the XT share the same mount, X-Shutter mounted lenses will be usable on other Cambo WRS bodies as well, allowing for a larger range of movement for compatible lenses. All configurations will require a cable, other than native XT lenses on XT bodies, and native XT lenses can also be used with a cable on other Cambo bodies but will require a small modification from Cambo to create a channel for the lens communication pins. As a direct replacement for the Copal 0 shutter, it may be possible to remount other lenses — please contact us if you have a custom request.

Pricing for retrofitting varies depending on the current lens mount:

• If the lens is already mounted in a Cambo WDS/RS board or standard flat lens board, the retrofitting will cost $4,900
• If the lens is mounted in another type of lens board, is not mounted in a board, or is an XT lens for which Tilt/Shift is desired, the retrofit will cost $4,900 + an additional charge for the necessary hardware to house it in the WDS/RS mount, ranging from $1,000 to $2,200, depending on the particular lens.
